    Fezcats Project Spirograph RX7

    Well after much pratting about, umming and ahhing and generally being an indecisive dribbling moron. I pulled my thumb out of my arse and Finally bought a FD3.

    Having been to look at quite a few FD's and not really being comfortable with any of them I concluded that the only real option was to buy one and either DIY the engine build or pay for one depending on how Money works out :nod:

    Id also decided that I dont care if its CAT D (which this one is) As I wont be selling it :nod:

    So what I have is a 1993 FD3s :thumbs: No MOT but sorned - Its on 107k km some of which are in miles, the shell hasnt got a jot of rust on it, anywhere, suspension is all (surprisingly) in good nick :) no squeaks or anything else horrid, everything works as it should,4 really rather new tyres :nod: rusty but new,discs :thumbs: immaculate paint, mint wheels, mint interior, mind passenger doorcard, engine still turns and runs, aftermarket exhaust and filters, a free tomtom and a double din head unit :nod:

    So the engine runs, albeit begrudingly with white smoke - Im hoping at bes this is coolant seals but I wont know until ive whipped the engine out and started stripping with my trusty wrench :wack:

    Worst case it'll need a full rebuild and ill have to chuck the whole engine away - Ill cry, get over it, buy another one and get building.

    I cannot for the life of me understand why people are so scared of building rotary engines, they are about as simple as you could possibly get? :confused: Just got to make sure you check all the tolerances (im sure once ive spent a grand or two on parts and it goes bang straight away ill be speaking differently :wack:

    Anywho - Ive found some old but useable HKS Coilovers with some new topmounts for £160 delivered :thumbs:

    so she needs..

    * engine sorting/rebuilding/ported/mapped - Will get an apexi PFC and some epic gauges :)
    * new metal slam panel thingy etc (do something you might as well do it properly! :smash:
    * Coilovers
    * Wheels (Want some dishu, ultralite nurburgrings or similar)
    * Bumper respraying (as its fucking terrible at the moment)
    * Feed sideskirts

    Then summer croozing :wack: AND At least one Drift day, Id promised myself Id learn this drifting lark before the end of summer :) Then again I promised myself id weigh 2 stone less and thats not going to happen :wack:

    Over Winter...
    * Front and rear end suspension off, sandblasted, and painted, then refreshed with new bushes etc
    * Whilst the above is being done, ill be treating the whole of the underside to a freshen up, systematic removal of rust followed by a coat or two of stonechip
    * Hopefully the arrival of a beautiful single turbo for christmas :wack:
    * 99 spec front bumper
    * probably some new coilovers

    Then finally, when she's running ~400-420 bhp looking like a mean as fuck bitch on wheels, I may be (probably) happy

    I doubt it....

    At the moment biggest dilemma is - Atkins Rebuild kit or OEM Mazda parts?

    The Yanks seem swear by atkins?

    Pictures up later when I can access photobucket, car will be home tomorrow :thumbs:

    So the pics I took when I went to look at her :thumbs:

    First impressions are everything :)
    [IMG]

    From the front (she does have a bumper but I dont like the fact that its so poorly sprayed my cat could have done it with piss so its not on)

    [IMG]

    Other side - marks on the bonnet are tree blossom lol
    [IMG]

    Engine bay - Ignoring the rippled front bumper bar, she's actually very clean :)
    [IMG]

    And lastly from the rear
    [IMG]

    More pics tomorrow when she arrives :)

    Tbh dude - I havent decided what to do with the engine yet..

    Once Ive had a chance to get the engine out and apart, I can find out what its like.

    If its just coolant seals and the engine isnt completely fubarred, ill do the seals myself, get it together for a summers worth of cruising and then look to rebuild over winter (either by someone or by myself)

    Rather like the idea of DIYing the engine build to be honest but not 100% - Hayward Rotary is only 20 minutes down the road from where I work (I know newbury better than I do reading)

    Either the above OR buy a good running engine/recently rebuilt one - honestly, I've not a clue to be honest

    *************************

    On the plus side, ive got some HKS coilovers and new pillowball topmounts arriving on monday for the princely sum of - £160 delivered :wack: (Chuffed? yes I am)

    Hopefully found someone that can sort the fubarred slam panel, again which is win :thumbs:

    Once thats done, Just need to sort the engine out - MOT and a few niggles, Job done :D

    Car looks good mate,

    I'd have a go at rebuilding the engine, think its circa £600-1300 in parts depending on whether its a refresh or more,

    I also have the DIY RE and Bruce turrentine rebuild videos which i would definately recommend.

    Matt :)

    Matt - Got your PM Ill be back at you later on as im at work :wack:

    At the end of the day, it depends entirely on whats wrong with the engine, and to find that out she's going to have to come out and get the block stripped down :)

    Also thinking about porting etc - Ive been told that bridgeporting is almost entirely unnessecary unless you want to run daft power?

    Im thinking an extended street port? Advice/opinions welcomed - cant wait to get home and start cleaning her :D

    Bridge porting just seems to be unnessecarily loud, uneconomic and the rest?

    Street port it is :thumbs: Gonna Keep the sequential twins for now, so the rats nest is on the list of things to replace :wack:

    Im so totally excited about this :) This way I get to build something from scratch and make it totally my own :D when I get home, first thing to do, get the spoiler ripped off the back and give her a wash and pump up the tyres lol, Cant do antyhing else until im next off :(

    Rippled?!!! You mean crash damaged. Does it even drive straight?

    - Fezcock - Guest

    Yes - she's Cat D, she's straight as an iron rod :nod: there is NO damage to anywhere else on the shell at all, nothing, nothing is fubarred underneath, no damage under the wings, no damage past the dent in the bar at the front.

    Slight overreaction there chap lol

    Cool car :)

    Fingers crossed you can keep momentum on the build or have the cash for a rebuild. Too many fd projects get started and are aborted :(

    not overly convinced 1k is a good price for what is essentialy a rolling shell with a buggered engine.

    as you can get fds with freshly built engines for a couple of k more, which lets face it, its going to cost at least that to build it properly.

    hope you got deep pockets! but if you have then good luck to you, hope it turns out good
