Been a while since i got the car and its only just now that Ive started to add a few bits to it to make it better Anyway. Always been into drifting but never had the cash to fork out for the insurance for a rwd car till January 2011. I got my 1st years no claims and a quote of £650 FC for a ford sierra. Searched around and found one in Bristol for £450. Looking at the pics it was pretty tidy and with loads of MOT and some tax too! Its a 2litre twink on a shity carb. 1st thing I did with it was weld the diff and chop the springs: 1st drift day was at Blyton: Didnt do too bad. But then found out about buxton! Being my 2nd drift day and getting a bit too confident, tried manji-ing the straight and failed! Also after that drift day it started to pull to one side and the n/s/r was being massively scrubbed so had a look and the subframe was on the piss. So much for 9months MOT. This car was seriously rusty: subframe mount: picked up some wellers for it: Also fitted a SU carb off a rover v8. Had it lying around and the original was fucked: It was shit, but worked better than the original. Then came another buxton: ended up putting it into the wall twice, so the back is a little miss shaped and in need of a another n/s headlight and indicator! some vids: http://www.facebook.com/v/212165948813964 http://www.facebook.com/v/212224925474733 picked up another set of wellers, 15 x 7's but with gay 205/60 tyres Then July came and another buxton weekend. Had loads of fun but again put it into the wall: But on the way home I ended up getting crashed into: The guy in the background wasnt the driver Best thing that could of happened tbh. It was a shit carbed model, been repeatedly into buxtons walls making it pretty fucked. And it was rust as hell underneath.

So about a week later looking around I found another sierra. This time, about 8 months MOT, injection engine and its a ghia. But also an auto and located in Devon! Smoked it about enjoying the auto box for a while. Welded the diff, Chopped the rears down and put them in the front and chopped down some transit springs and put them in the back and headed off for a day at oulton park: hit the tyre wall at oulton:
Got around to swapping the manual box off my old one into the new one. Was a cunt though as I forgot to buy the manual spigot bearing. And after getting the box on, to find they use different sumps because the starter motor is on opposite sides. Luckily I kept the old sump as a mate wanted it to weld in a turbo oil return. After getting it manulized I headed off to the 1st buxton drift day in the new sierra: getting nice and close to the wall you can see where the rear lens has been damaged from a wall tap Then came the twin drift competition, didnt do too well. the track had dried up and no handbrake made it pretty hard to do the hairpins: 1st wall tap 2nd wall tap 3rd wall tap all fixed: This also happended: Felt like a tyre delaminating, so clutch kicked into the corner but span out and saw my wheel bounce along the wall! LOL Luckily there was a scrap sierra onsite that I could nick the studs from. Anyway since then Ive picked up some cheap suspension off here: Gonna redrill the steering arms on the spare hubs ready for the rose joint track rod ends for mega lock. Also picked up some rear polybushes as the original ones were fucked. poly bushed subframe and rear arms ftw: Ran out of carb cleaner to do the arms, so: But then the headgasket had to go. Finished work at 00:00, got home and just as I was turning around to park outside the house, a massive cloud of white smoke came out of the exhaust + the expansion bottle being mega pressurised just waiting for the engine bits to turn up, rebuild the engine and test the new suspension and polybushes at the last buxton for this season
Cheers for the comments everyone Topi: crashing is fun haha. Timing chain kit came today, just waiting for headbolts and headgasket. need a new chain guide too and then it can be rebuilt.
Sweeeet! Yeah the crashing really adds up when you write it all down in this thread. You're getting better at coming CLOSE though without just crashing haha. Great stuff, look forward to seeing many more Buxtons from the new beaut.
These are the rear springs that were in the front: DSC02353 by rtlkyuubi, on Flickr Though it was sat on the bumpstops. And these were the transit springs in the rear: DSC02369 by rtlkyuubi, on Flickr I did use the original sierra rubber ring at the top and the bottom rubber ring off the transit. Whilst waiting for engine parts to turn up, I got onto sorting out fuel parts at the back of the car. Anyone with a low sierra knows that the fuel and brake lines that run along the bottom of the floor pan are a big worry. In my last sierra, I left a nice long fuel trail and a massive fuel spill out side someones house in twickenham because the fuel lines rubbed through on a cambered road With this sierra, I had already hit the fuel lines on the floor and kinked them. So cut it out, bent the floor pan in and refitted some flexy pipe. Gonna make a guard to bolt over them too: DSC02404 by rtlkyuubi, on Flickr Also sorted out the fuel filler neck too. When a tyre delaminated, it just ripped the original plastic guard out of the way, so made a metal one: DSC02405 by rtlkyuubi, on Flickr Stripped the front of the engine down to get it ready to fit the new parts and noticed that there was a loose bolt on the oil pump, so took it out: DSC02406 by rtlkyuubi, on Flickr DSC02408 by rtlkyuubi, on Flickr Turns out that it was the bolt that holds in the pressure relief valve! Luckily it couldnt come out all the way as it was sitting up to the engine block, but must of lowered the pressure that the valve operates at. So cleaned the threads up and put a bit of loctite on! and a twink engine with no cover or oil pump: DSC02409 by rtlkyuubi, on Flickr Just need to get a gasket for the oil pump as well now as the original one broke up. Hope ford can get me one before the weekend, if not, ill have to get the cornflake box out
no idea lol, probably more than that, Now that ive got my fuel lines done, just the brake line and it will be going lower But so far its scrapped the front subframe, sump, rear subframe, diff, exhaust and floor pan
Could you use S13 style rear coilovers in this? It has the exact same suspension as my Merkur and I need to find some rear coilovers.
Doubt it as sierra's use eyelets on both ends and are pretty long. DSC02368 by rtlkyuubi, on Flickr iirc, I measured the rough distance when it was sat with the old springs in and they need to be a minimum of 580mm long or something. The closest I found was VW beatle coilovers lol at 550mm, But they would make it sit 30mm or so lower than the height it was with the cut springs. Even though your in canada give protech a ring or an email: Welcome to Protech Shocks - manufacturer of custom made shock absorbers | Protech Shocks They custom make coilovers with bits off the shelf so theyre rather cheap. Rear coilovers to the length you want them with adjustable dampening are about £100 each from them. Which is a fucking good price as adjustable shockers from spax are £90 each.
