Sorry guys n girls a know the holset thing has been played out time n agen but a need to know when would full boost be on 1jz vvti with holset hx40. It's 8 blade 16cm t3 hx40. A bought it because am desparate for a turbo and it was there at the time at the right price. A thought it wouldn't come on much later than a hx35, prob 3800-4000 rpm but after talking yesterday a couple of people say different. Any help would be much appreciated as if it's a 5000 rpm plus turbo it's just not worth me fitting it. Thanks again people
Unless your setup is proper shit, I'd say 4k at the very most on a single scroll manifold. A 12cm HX35 is full boost on a 1J and RB25s about 3.5k, sometimes a bit less. A 16cm T3 HX40 isn't much bigger to be fair. Obv faster on a proper twin scroll setup. There's a German guy on here who until fairly recently ran a 16cm HX40 on a RB26, and he had full boost pretty quick, and RB26s spool turbos quite bad tbf as they're really short stroke. If it's single scroll, just port match the flanges etc so no big flat edges and shiz, a nice big downpipe, and you should be fine.

In your opinion would I be better with a hx35 if I could get one for 1jz vvti or would it just be getting me 500rpm sooner!
Honestly I've not seen back to back testing, but I doubt they spool much different on a 2.5. The turbo to have for 500bhp or less on a 1J always seems to be the HY35.
