As per title really. I know a few people have done rear mount turbos with some success.

Car in question is an M50 E36.

What is stopping me from extending the exhaust across and/or under the engine and mounting the turbo where the airbox usually sits? The exhaust can then either be routed under the inlet or exit at the front?

Can't see why it would be an issue.
My friend kit has made a few rear turbo set ups on mercs and also a hot rod with a huge single turbo on a v8 witch sat out infront of the motor. Here's also some pics of my friend als Volvo

My only concern would be where your routing the exhaust manifold extension as such and exhaust exit to keep temps under control. I'm sure it's possible though. These guys have done it not just googled

Also the drag guys mount the turbos where they can, here is my friend als twin turbo Volvo that is aiming for 7 second 1/4 miles in street trim

I would limit it to on the car the engine is mounted to. Trying to mount it on another car entirely is really impractical.

Got the donor car arriving this weekend so I'll post a build thread and take it from there. Its probably a pretty pointless idea to be honest.
