So my love affair for rear wheel drive Japanese Cars is in full swing, and after selling the recent daily, I felt it was time for something new.

Moving quickly from my NA JZA80 Supra, I made the commitment to purchase a larger option from the list of JZ Platforms.

    84BD45D1-B674-46ED-9F9A-FAE7D507762B.

400 miles later on new years day (2017), I brought home my first Chaser from Josh at Gorilla Imports, a very clean, low mile, almost un-molested JZX90, Tourer-V

    1f04a84203f62c130b9317d19b6cd23a.

Initially, I didn't have plans to do anything with it, but as I find myself finally stepping into Drifting, I started to take aim at building something that I can use both Daily and on the Track.

All I needed to do is get some seat time in to learn the basics beforehand. (**Purchases a rotten Eunos Roadster, turns into another project - here)

As ever, I can only expect a little flak for the Car being an Auto, (which I completely understand) BUT, Toyota's Autoboxes are pretty solid and the costs of an R154 or BMW Manual Conversion are just too much for me to commit too right now..

So, we wont be aiming for a stripped out, D1 Spec Drift Car, but with a few choice modifications in mind, l think I should still have a good all rounder for what I am asking.

Moving forward, it was time to start making the Car my own.
Sourced a Chaser Grille Badge for cheaps (from a JZX100), chopped it, painted it and stuck it on.

    7b7dbec7a8718cf9846d31a547417200.

    Much better,

    c1.

Giving the Engine a once over, wound up changing the crusty old HKS Air Filter for a brand new one and threw a Cusco High pressure Rad Cap on there. (Joys of working for a motorsport parts wholesaler = cost price on branded parts)

Be interesting to see how you get on, I assume you can lock it in gears?

According to my friend Kenny, he said Turn the Overdrive and Traction Control off, put her in Power Mode and 2nd gear, then away you go...

There was an old Japanese Video on Youtube where they were drifting Auto Chasers and Laurels, couldn't understand them, but kinda get the point. Will try and find the link...

Was a good watch, interesting how they have got over the inability to Clutch kick by momentarily taking it out of gear whilst on the gas...

Service bits landed at work, HKS JZ Series Oil, Oil Filter and some Plugs.

    MhFIMUQ.

Ride height needs addressing, although the super squishy Suspension is comfortable as fuck, it just looks gash.

Small project going on with the intake. Making measurements on new induction hoses. I'm looking at Silicone hoses with some heat wrapped hard piping. Then eventually will have it leading up to Greddy front mount Intercooler.

Ha! Sorry, was too much of a bargain to pass up on lol.

Auto Box is fine, Toyota A34 Auto boxes are pretty spot on to be honest

More done on the Induction system today, Turbo and Induction Piping has been heat wrapped. Ran out of wrap, so couldn't do the second Turbo feed pipe or the new Airbox Pipe.....

    IMG_1094.JPG

On the suspension side of things, Gorilla Imports still had the old leaky HKS Coilovers that the car came on from Japan. So took a punt, and ordered them up with the intention of cleaning/rebuilding them.

Thats all for now, off to Rockingham Matsuri tomorrow for a watch....

Coilovers arrived today, pretty sorry state, but for the price, I'm confident I can bring them back.

Luckily I spent some time with HKS in Japan many moons ago in 2015 and was lucky enough to have product training on Cusco Coilovers and LSD's
    (cue Work based flashbacks);

    Anywho, back to it...
1 of the rears struts had shat itself, but figured all will come apart for new Oil, Gas and Seal etc.

Turns out they are HKS Hiper-D's and not Hipermax II's like I was initially told

    IMG_1200.JPG

Busted out the Jet wash, cleaned up well, just need some metal Polish and elbow grease. Should be back to former glory in no time....

Metal polish came out today, seem to be cleaning up nicely

    f07df623f7039873cb827101732112e3.

Top mounts are right mullered though, the Alloy has started to seperate on the top plates, so ready for the Bin.

Fortunately, I can unbolt the bearing carriers from them and possibly machine some new ones to fit.

More homework on these things, turns out the Hipermax III Spring Platforms and Locking Rings are a direct fit.
Chopped the old seized ones off and got the new ones on there.

Looking pretty fucking good if I do say so!

First Coilover is stripped down, messy Job, but easy enough to do,

    IMG_1243.JPG

Will label up all the seals and send them off to a Hydraulic Seal company to match them up...

Hey man, sorry, just noticed this...

The Ring diameter i just measured is 53.5mm

The Spring Platforms were to fit 65mm ID Springs.

For info, if you need them, the Spring Platforms are supplied as a set of 4x (Part number 82006-AK055)

The Locking Rings are sold as singles (Part number 1790-HD020)

After months of sitting in the Shed, I have finally dusted the Coilovers off, tracked down the seals and got to work on them.
Rear units are now built with fresh Oil, just need a re-gas and top mounts sorting out.

Finally made some decent progress on the struts. re-sealed and waiting for Gas.
    Looking pretty fucking sweet!

Possible plans for how I'd want this to look, White on White with some BN style Bumper extensions and Skirts. If I can commit myself to spend a chunk of money on asthetics alone....
