Grassroots - aka, the folks who start from nothing & work their way up with regards to car & driver level. Some people have the right contacts & money to go straight to Pro, but for most it starts with Grassroots - Practicing, being skint, eating noodles for a month, buying car stuff, being more skint, more practice, etc etc.
Its another stolen AMERICAAAA term. Basically anyone who's a beginner, I don't class it as anything to do with wealth/sponsors.
Okay, i will take that on board, and probably in the next few weeks produce a grass roots video from Awesomfest thanks for that. do apologise for the lack of knowledge on that.
keep in mind everybody that nearly all the pro drivers came from grass roots themselves just a long time ago. i learned to drift in a kp60 starlet with a 2liter nissan diesel around a field. i remember watching buff when his drift car was a 24valve carlton.
Niice video! Yeah would be cool to see some coverage of the other peeps that were driving there too . If you have any of my car itd be cool to see, as anyone would want to see their car in a video! It gets a bit boring seeing a million pictures/threads/videos of the same 'pro' cars, of course the cars and drivers are ace so deserve all the media but we all know they look like going sideways, just nice to see some variety is all im saying! Very nice pictures and videos from you guys .
Nice work man, I know a certain someone whos going to be super horny over the chase footage he features in (black r32 about 2:40). He's going to make me watch it over and over again.
Quality video, think its the first one Ive ever seen by you! Some of the night time shots have come out great, bet it was a nightmare trying to get decent footage in that light haha
Agreed. The picture/vid ratio of 'normal' drifters to the 'Pros' is totally out of wack with the cars on track. It seems if your car isnt plastered with stickers you dont get a look in. Deffo noticed this since I stopped competing and destickered my car.

Just for everyones knowledge we were there solely for Jap Performance Parts so that is why they are heavily featured etc. But your all right I think the Grassroots needs to be made alot more prominant. After speaking with Daze and Joe sef about this earlier im thinking about doing another video from awesomfest and making it the "Grassroots vid" What do we all think with that?
Thats a Awesome bit of filming dont worry guys i got a few of the non pro drivers too so they will be going in my film when i get it done.
IMO the cars that are shown in almost all the pics and vids is because they were the ones properly rocking it. SteveC and a few others were really good, but the fact they put Pro's in each session is what made it good, without them a lot of sessions would have been rubbish to watch. The skill gap between almost all the normal guys and the pros was massive, hell, the skill gap between some of the 'pros' and the really good pros was huge. The Starlet and Escort wasnt graphic'd up, but they were kicking ass so seen lots of them.
I disagree mate, thought the Superpros other than the crazy Dutchies were pretty average, SteveC and a few others who know the track showed them up a bit IMO Steve IMO was the best driver on Saturday morning and only got eclipsed once Remmo had figured the place out and the Escort/Starlet double act wetn out
Driving gets you noticed, its as simple as that. As above, the most talked about cars have been some banger-looking MK2 and a Starlet.
I guess you never really know untill you see someone out there, Can imagine having mallory as your local must be well good. My local is Castle Combe, not as good as mallory for drifting IMO. Recently did a video from the Ford RS Day and the Starlet and Escort were in that too! link is below but that proves to you how mental these guys are if you take a look ur see what i mean, if u missed them at awesomfest!
