Being a bit cheeky could you post a copy of detail pictures for cars you have bought that were marked up with various issues just so we can see how bad they really were. I appreciate that it isn't going to give a definative answer just an idea and a bit more confidence before deciding to import. Interested to understand "repair traced" especially on black Altezza with the nearside rear marked up because it looks mint in the photos. Does this mean damage has been repaired and looks good or bodged job and needs redoing?
vourin not really clear what you want me to do, the Altezza has a repair trace on the right rear quarter indicated by a B3, means it has had a repair, probably hard to see unless you have a trained eye, you can see in the photos it looks pretty good. Learning the grades and what they mean can take time and different auctions have different interpretations and can grade to different standards. Its with over 15 years of checking cars at different auction and reading inspection sheets does this skill become understood. The short answer i guess is this altezza is a good look with no major defects or problems. I simply could not write a comprehensive explaination in this forum as it is too complicated and would take too long, and by the time id finished youd be more confused and the car would be another 5 years older.

wonga121 the total you will have to pay to get the car in your drive way is going to be around £2,930 calculated at the exchange rate when that car was posted on here, this price could work out cheaper though as the UK Pound is improving against the yen at the moment.
Just so I'm 100% clear, you pay the FOB price then when the car arrives you pay the "landed including VAT & Import Duty" price right? So the total price is both of those added? God I'm close to picking up that RX7
OK I understand it now. (Autospecs correct me if I'm wrong) FOB is the price your paying to basiclly buy the car in Japan, that's it. You still need to get the car to the UK. You pay them the FOB price, they put the car on a boat. The other price is for the shipping, VAT, and import duty. You pay that when the car arrives in the UK.
for the RX-7 priced at 200,000yen fob you pay us £1,264 to purchase the car and export it when it arrives in the UK you pay the ocean freight Vat & import duty which will be around £1,011 £1,264 +£1,011 =£2,275 So my calculator tells me This car will cost you £2,275 in total in your drive way with vat, import duty, ocean freight, the car and us all paid for. At time of typing this exchange rate below applies 1,264.00 GBP = 200,297.96 JPY United Kingdom Pounds Japan Yen 1 GBP = 158.464 JPY 1 JPY = 0.00631060 GBP
for the Silvia priced at 280,000yen fob you pay us £1,766 to purchase the car and export it when it arrives in the UK you pay the ocean freight Vat & import duty which will be around £1,108 £1,766 +£1,108 =£2,874 So my calculator tells me This car will cost you £2,874 in total in your drive way with vat, import duty, ocean freight, the car and us all paid for. 280,000.00 JPY = 1,766.85 GBP Japan Yen United Kingdom Pounds
It will take around 6 weeks of sailng on the water to get the car to the UK, we need around 1 - 2 weeks to prepare documentation for customs and export so total around 8 weeks.
Thank you for the clear explaination, after the vehicle arrve, Is there any other thing that I need to do before I can drive the vehicle on the road?
For the three things u mention above I only know what is MOT, how much and where do I need to do the SVA and reg?
You will need to contact the DVLA regarding SVA If your Japanese car import is under 10 years old: You will need to have the ESVA test and a MOT. To pass this, your vehicle will require a model report. The ESVA requires your vehicle to have a model report and speedo converter fitted. A model report is a document that confirms that your vehicle meets UK safety standards. You do not need to make a model report yourself. These are rented from sources that have already had the model report made. If you are unsure if your vehicle has a model report, you can check here Model Report List Model Reports you will then need to fill in a "V55/4" form available from your local Vehicle Registry Office. They also produce a booklet (a "V355/4") on how to complete the V55/4. Besides these, you will also need: The First Registration fee (£25) Money for Road Tax (6 or 12 months) Your Minister’s Approval (SVA) Certificate A valid Certificate of Insurance
How about if I buy a vehicle that is older than ten years old? Is that mean that I don't need the SVA step?
