    Hey hey!

I am looking for a place that is able to re-chrome a set of chrome alloy wheels please...

I have asked a couple of places and they dont do it, saying getting the original chrome off is a bit tricky without the right machine.

Anyone know a decent place that undertakes this work please?

    Muchos

Same as Swampy, the places that can do it will charge and arm and a leg for it :(

I looked into this. There is one guy i know of. Trying to remember. But i spent nearly a day trying to find anyone to do alloys.

In the end it was cheaper to send em to cal chrome in the states. Or buy the wheels n get em shipped over.

Copper plating was also a no go in this country.

Speak to mike the polisher in scotland he will send u in the right direction.

The other option you could look at would be having them sandblasted and powder coated, you could even get a chrome or dark chrome powder coat on them.

All depends on how much the wheels are worth and how much you're looking to spend, but as so few people have ever done it it's clear it's not cheap at all.

Good effort at sarcasm, but have you considered that just maybe me and Swampy tried google and found no-one who would touch wheels? Im sure its very easy to get your spitfire bumper done or an old teapot but rims arent the same ........

OP said he'd tried a couple of places Doc, Google is great you just need to know what to search for, surprised you found no-one that would touch wheels? Who do the classic car people go to get their wheels re-chromed by? By changing the Google Search to "Chrome Wheel Repair" it came up with 'Wicked Wheels' at number three:

Let me google that for you

They are apparently 'the UK's largest Mobile Alloy Wheel Refurbishment Company".

Says they do Chrome Wheel Repairs:

Chrome Wheel Repair - Chrome Wheel Repair on-site in UK | Wicked Wheels UK

I don't comment on here much these days as when you try to help people you can get shot down...

when i was doing the 19" i had for my aristo (late last year) there was pretty much noone that would do it. chrome wheels in the uk is'nt that big of a scene, chrome lips yeah but not the whole wheel. if you want wheels fully chromed look at the US, they have a massive love for shiny things, trucks and there sisters but it wont be cheap.

for me the best option was to just polish them, took for fucking ever but the end result was awesome :D

not meaning to nit pic mr blackett but I really cant see how they can offer mobile chrome plating as im sure its done by dipping polished stuff into a tank of nasty chemicals.
im confident that to get the old chrome off they dip it in some kinda acid stuff.

I remember mr steeeeevoo had some chrome r32 gtr wheels once.

Then put the link up rather that LMGTFY ;)

Wicked Wheels wouldnt have anything to do with mine, I dont believe the chrome itself is the problem but the copper stuff under it - I had a good long chat with the best guy I know the other day (funnily enough when he was sorting some lips on chrome centred wheels for me) and he was basically saying even if you could find someone its not worth it, theres definitely no way you could do it mobile

Ill give them a call myself tomorrow as I could do with my SSR's being done but you owe me a cup of tea if Im right ;) :D

Maybe someone put wheels on the tank? Lol...

I think a call to the guys would answer any queries. Another 2 second search on google finds:

Home - Hot Wheelz Limited - Alloy Wheel Refurbishment

"We chrome plate, chrome polish, sand blast and powder coat. We can fully refurbish or just fix scuffs and chips. Alloy wheels can make all the difference to your vehicle not just the apperance but also the value."

Alloy Wheel Refurbishment Chrome Plating & Metal Polishing Birmingham - Home

    Chrome Plating Services Birmingham

"Like our metal polishing service, we provide a chrome plating service for a wide range of metals. We supply a chroming service that includes chroming and re-chroming. We are specialists in the chrome plating of classic and vintage car parts, as well as motorcycles. We also chrome a wide range of parts for other industries upon request."

Haven't used any of the above companies, give them a call to see if they can help you out.

    thanx guys

it is for my original Do-Luck double 6 alloys.

problem is taking the chrome plate off....most people can take off the chrome but its the undercoat thats an issue - and if u get it wrong they loo kshit once re-done

may have ot use 1 place for stripping all chrome off and another to chrome paint it after - not getting chrome plating done again

I understand that to sandblast chroming/copperplate off is no go territory. The plating is harder than the base wheel metal and whilst you may clear a bit of area the soft alloy base will blast away before the platings get touched. My Work lips are anodised so could polish the anode coating off but that colour silver would be a different colour to the chrome centres and would then need sealing. Best bet to get a surface that would key a coat of paint........somehow.
