Jites, he came to the forum for answers because "DRIFT-works". I completely agree he could search more before posting or maybe rephrase the question to be a bit more specific.

    Welcome 82rx7!
RX7 as such is a relatively simple, light and RWD car which makes it pretty great for drifting according to other users of this forum. Because of the age and engine expect it to be a great learning tool in terms of maintenance, increasing performance and drifting.

According to experienced drifters low power, simple beaters with bad hand brakes are best for learning.

Your first step should be to start tinkering about the car, because if you lose interest in wrenching about it, then this isn't for you. If you don't have any basic tools go and buy them. Second hand, doesn't matter. A wrench set and a few key spanners. The rest you will have to buy as you go along.

As far as modifications go there is a thread here somewhere for beginners that basically says you should take care of your cars oil and water systems, install adjustable coilovers and a 2 way diff (although most prefer welded stock diffs for learning because of the price difference). Every other penny should go towards "seat time" or practice.

Weld the diff and take it a skid mate. If it skids it skids. If it doesn't skid it doesn't skid. Don't think too much about it just go and and get stuck in.
