Well its officially started mot test centres are failing cars on mot for being to low and wrong suspension geometry because it had coilovers, the polo I seen fail can get a jack under it too I wouldn't of said it was excessive, There trying to bring more in too like wider wheel, wider body kits will be a fail any modification that effect the weight and aerodynamics of a vehicle will fail, also "remapping" a vehicle that is tax based emissions to start with then onto any other vehicle. Not fucking happy my cars never going to pass :-( Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
its going to happen though isnt it, The EU is going to slowly put an end to any car that is modified from standard.
no there not. same rumours start every single year. as has been said every single time a thread like this pops up, whatever gets changed, theyll always be a way round it and modified cars arnt just going to get banned. we make the goverment far too much money in fuel, road tax and fines. just usual hysterical internet hype. i mot'd my car a few weeks back, its slammed on its arse, noisy, is remapped, hasnt got half the things on it its suppose to have and yes has a welded diff, hydro, harnesses and buckets, a cage and all the other shit people cry about failing mots for. it passed.
LOL i love to see UK guys start to panic about that stuff...........its here in germany since fucking 20years like that and yes! it will become in every EU country like here. shit even my daily (starlet p9) is illegal on our streets since i mount 1! inch taller VW steelies. you dont pay Tax,fuel & fines with a STOCK OEM car? sorry but the HigherUps dont give a single Fuck about our Hobby
the future is going to be so boring. im not going to have kids because them and there children after them are going to live dull, uninteresting and health and safety clad lives... wont be long before you sign a disclaimer from the company you bought your bed off before getting out every morning.
my cars not goin to pass an not anyway lol, seriously though, its who you know more than anything. I've had my rx7 without a cat or air pump pass. 9x over the emissions limit!
and why have you titled this thread "mod plod" mod plod is the ministry of defence police. NOTHING to do with the real police?
I was gonna say the same thing. My Mrs Lupo was turned away because it was to low, I asked them there and then to borrow a c spanner and jack, 20 mins later the car was sitting 2 inches higher. Job done.
I'm a tester and I haven't been informed of such changes, if the car is too low, raise it. I normally just drive them onto blocks so I can fit the jack underneath(if I'm in a good mood that is)
I've put two cars through an MOT in the last couple of months. Coilovers, lowered, turbo conversion. Everything passed just fine.
At the end of the day WRC and other rally cars are road legal as they have to drive between stages.......think they might be just slightly modified!!!
This was posted by the EU commission today so everyone calm their horses:- Reports in the press that the European Commission has proposed to make modifications to cars illegal, or to ban classic cars unless they are unchanged since manufacture are entirely wrong. The Commission’s proposals would not, if agreed by the Member States and the European Parliament, make any difference to the current situation regarding MOT testing in the UK except to make most classic cars more than 30 years old exempt from testing if they are not used day-to-day on the roads. All other cars would remain subject to roadworthiness testing, just as they are now. Whether or not they have been modified is not of itself relevant: what counts is whether they are safe and that is what is assessed by MOT tests in the UK and by the equivalent tests elsewhere. What the proposals will do is require all Member States to bring their road worthiness tests up to a certain level of rigour, already applied in the UK : for example, motorbikes will need to be tested regularly everywhere, as they are already in the UK. This will make driving safer for UK drivers at home and abroad. The Commission is writing separately to all the newspapers concerned, none of which checked the facts with us before publication.
im a tester myself and tbh the people that are your "friendly tester" are taking massive risks, its not worth the hassle with the fines/prision/lossing your m.o.t liecense! ive said it before and i will say it again, the m.o.t is a load of bollocks BUT they are bringing more and more into in now so i would say its a matter of time before all mods are a fail, but that could take fucking years to go through! and as for being to low, thats just the m.o.t tester not wanting to try and jack the fucking thing lol on that note if anyone knows of a "drift friendly garage" for a m.o.t in bristol let me know as my aristo is now to low to get into the m.o.t bay
