Just a 'stone chip paint' approx £8 a tin (1L per tin)

I will find out the exact brand 2moro when I go back to my workshop.

Its good stuff, but there is about 6 litres on the car there as I dont want rust etc creeping back! :D

Dries hard and matt/satin and is like a rought sandpaper finish.

when the coils are so closely compressed (touching) is when they become "coil-bound" (i.e. touch each other and effectively reduce the number of active coils ) and so the rate of the spring rises.

if completely coil bound then = no suspension, not so good at high speed. shock wont work, suspension wont be working, nadda. if only for a few secs. it is avoidable in many ways but u dont wanna be starting off 60% there lol

BUT if ur changing / modding the springs then i wouldnt lose sleep over it

nice adam. looks like you have quite some time to give those arches. it took me a whole day on each. expect that or more. find reference points on the body to match the flare. being that the body is straight;) have fun!!

    ahh.

    I see.

Yeah, its a weird on that as when they are off the car they look like that aswell! :)

but I have another set of ae86 rear springs and they are different! So I just thought they where special! :)

Worked ok on the ae86 they came of but they where hard like.

Bu I think I want some different ones anyway, I just will use these for 'rolling round shed' duties! :)

I I want to replace these 8j with 8.5 in the future and move these up front and move on those old 7j's of your.

Will it really be such a big job to flare them out?? I will be re-painting too.

    the day consisted of:

-take out old rubbish inner arch molding, fling as far as you can without getting rocks in your face
    -:smash:
    -:smash:
    -:smokin:
    -
    -:smash:
    -:smash:
    -:smokin:
- line up the arch with thumb
    -:smash:
    -
    -:smash:
    - repeat
    -:smash:
    -
    -:smash:
    -then apply filler
    -:smokin:
    -sand
    -fill in air bubbles
    -:smokin:
    -sand
- eye the arch for smoothness
    -prime
    -:smokin:
    -:( whole day spent

its better to devote more time to them to get them perfect. i still need to work on mine more. as the rear are rotten and need a good grind.

Dude, that is not coil bound  Even though they look that way.

They are actually made like that! Its so that you get the lowered ride height, but still have a long enough spring, so it doesnt pop out of its seat when going over yumps in the road etc!

Or were you being sarcastic :p

Nice work Cookie, glad to see a certain AE86 is coming apart for a good cause :D :p

Whats the floor like under the fuel tank mate? Is that small funny dent in the spare wheel well, linked to the hole in the fuel tank you reakon?

Oh and what does the rusty bit look like with the tank out, any worse? haha :D

What are you doing about the hydraulic clutch then? Cutting the bulk head and fitting the 86 master cylinder, and playing around with the pedal box a little?

are u kidding me? they are made with the 7 top coils touchin each other? that makes no sense as that is effectively NOT a spring. why just have proper springs and matched suspension components so nothing "jumps" out on droop
    ?

never seen it like that before

    very odd

    but then it is jap:p

Yeah im being serious haha :D

I know man, it defies logic and its fucked up, but alot of modern day lowering springs are like that!

I had some on my AE86 when i first lowered it on Bilsteins and Fensport springs, believe it or not it handled really well haha :D

There you go, AE86 Fensport lowering springs! The bottom part then becomes coil bound as such once the car is sat on its wheels!
