Saying you can't calculate approx plenum size and shape (based on an already proven design, which this is, as said at the start), is like saying someone can't decide on intake trumpet length, port sizes, cam specs, header diameter n length, turbo sizing, compression ratio, or anything else without some kind of super computer- total bollocks, anyone with a decent understanding and experience of tuning can.

Nothing on cars is ever exact, it's retarded to think is, no matter how high end, its all done by either the best calculations they can do with what info they have, but this is a fuck sight closer to ideal than most setups you see for sale, which are just pretty blobs.

    This place amazes me sometimes...

The reason why I personally asked questions on this thread is because I have already tuned an RB20 with aftermarket management. Built it from scratch with forged internals. Modified the head and made adjustable cam wheels. Made my own inlet manifold and fitted a big turbo. I then ran it for nearly 3 years at 400bhp (limited by fuel pump) before I killed it due to oil issues. (My own fault)
But yet I'm not allowed to show interest or ask questions because apparently stav knows a lot more than anyone about this and I know nothing!!!

Your not asking questions, you're just bitching and picking and being a general forum cunt without anything to back up your words.

That reply is not based on what i said, the airflow calculations needed to design something like that from scratch dont need a super computer, i know guys who can do those types of things and the kind of money they make would make most people spit over the keyboard.
Anyone can approximate whats needed, there were no calculations involved for the airflow it was all guesswork.
It worked out but it could have went the other way

Googling pictures and getting other people to make you manifolds doesn't constitute you having anything to back up your knowledge.
I believe me running one of these exact engines for 3 years very hard and having already done more modifications to mine than you have to yours. And having good results constitutes to having a load more to back myself up than you do.

Now I've personally had enough of you trying to belittle me and constantly slagging me off with absolutely no knowledge of my skills or abilities from behind your keyboard. So ill leave this tread alone and hope that one day ill meet you in person and see if your the same in real life as you are on here.

To be fair mate he has said from the start he has absolutely no knowledge on inlet manifold design and left it up to someone else.

When he put pictures up he did pretty much say 'here are some pictures' and left it at that.

Exactly the reason why I didnt ask him about the inlet and instead contacted the person making the inlet with some polite questions.

Ie) Would it be willing to explain how you calculated this/ How does this work.

Fuck me ive read this from start to finish and I have to say that ive never come across so much shite! Stav said more or less from get go that he didn't no any specs etc about this manifold but yet everyone seems to be on his back about it, I thought this was a place were people could come for help/advice but going off this thread it seems im wrong! Just like to say good on you Stav for proving it did work for you and I did enjoy the first part of your build thread and its a shame some people seemed to want to hijack it for whatever reasons. I do understand that some people really did want to know specifics etc but as he said originally he didn't no but still they carried on regardless. Its a shame your thread got fucked up by certain people but hey ho that's just the way it goes sometimes. Glad you got the result you wanted with it and keep it up, all the best. Mick

Totally, so why did the specs of this manifold get decided on rather than using different sized ports, for instance, and why doesnt every manifold, OE and aftermarket that gets manufactured today not share this obviously more effective/efficient design? Thats all, no further comment.

Notice how it's the same 2-3 bitchy people, MD, Docwra, and Caged, page after page twisting and talking crap, who happen to be the ones who do most the sniping on this whole forum with very little to actually contribute to themselves.

So you really think any OEM stuff is remotely THE BEST, or even close?

Jesus, I knew you weren't exactly technically minded, but christ alive...

I guess it comes down to cost vs gains, I imagine it'd cost a fair bit to put posh manifolds on performance cars when there wouldn't be a huge advantage for a stock turbo setup.

Yawn, notice how you are still avoiding the questions and still claiming that everyone is having a go. Im not having a go, Im over the moon that its worked, honestly I am - Ive no doubt other people will follow your lead and see good results with this kind of design

OEM stuff on a 458 Ferrari, for instance, Id expect to be pretty good, likewise if I was smashing out £1500 on a Greddy plenum Id hope a bit of thought and effort would go into it, and it to my untrained eye it doesnt look like the cost of fabrication would be massively higher, certainly not for VW or a Ford or similar manufacturer particularly if its going to save fuel/make cars more efficient.

Likewise, when a new idea comes on the scene and its proven to be beneficial, theres usually some supporting theory about why its better - I doubt the guy who came up with common rail diesels supported his results with "It just works, we dont need to find out why"

Anyway, I really CBA, you still seem to have some issue with what are perfectly reasonable Q's, good luck and all that. Fair fucking play for trying the idea and fair fucking play for Thomas for making it work.

So, by your logic, almost all OEM parts are as good as they can possibly be for that level of factory performance?
Jesus, we better tell the tens of thousands of tuning parts manufacturers worldwide that they're wasting their money as OEM do it right first time.

And good luck thinking how much £££££ spent even remotely equals how good a tuning component is too, lol.

Even big money big name tuning parts often have massive issues, we've all had them.

FFS if these replies wasn't so blatantly trolling/digging/sniping just to be internet cunts to someone as usual they'd be funny as fuck.

I didnt say anything of the sort, just that if by making a relatively straightforward change you can increase the efficiency of a given component so massively as you appear to have done Im surprised OEM's havent done the same, never mind race teams or aftermarket companies. Last time I checked Greddy wasnt OE either.

Anyway, still not giving information, still flinging insults around, still seem to be taking everything as some kind of personal attack, still CBA.

It's not that I think it's a personal attack as such (even though you know damn well it is), it's putting the record straight and replying to what you're saying that on the whole makes no sense, but if someone didn't know any better they'd think you're not just making things up as you go along.

How is going from what's usually a rectangle with a throttle and some ports coming off it as most OEM manifolds are to a trumpeted strange shape inlet a simple thing for an OEM? That's a bloody complex thing.
Fuck, only OEM turbo manifold I've ever seen with trumpets is a YB Cosworth one, and that's because it was done for homologation reasons.
Unless you know better I guess?
Dunno about you, but I wouldn't be going to the effort of a complex manifold like this to help response a bit when you've got such a small factory turbo that response isn't an issue, ie ALL bloody OEM turbo engines. Would be a massive waste of money as unlike what you day, it's not a 'simple' change.
So yeah, no idea what your point is tbh...

As for race teams, so Nismo, Audi, Brian Hart, Skoda WRC, Peugeot WRC, Citroen WRC, Ford WRC, etc etc that have all used this style of turbo inlet plenum aren't race teams? Could've fooled me!

    LOL!

definite lack of pics, a picture tells 1000 words but the last few pages are 1000's and 1000's of words that I can't be bothered reading cos I'm still 3 years old n like pictures!!
