Basically bought a non-abs 3x2 Diff with an awesome ratio(4.4), but the diff itself isn't in great condition and knocks a lot and whines at motorway speeds.

Im running an S15 6 Speed box in an S13 so I've had to get a custom single piece prop made and don't fancy getting a new custom prop made to suit an abs diff, and I also don't want to have to invest in some 5x1 Skyline shafts so im wanting to keep 3x2 shafts ideally....

The main question from this essay is...Is it a difficult job to change the input flange on the diff from ABS to Non-ABS? I've heard you just buzz the nut off and yank the flange out, and replace with said non-abs flange? is it that simple?

    Cheers,
    Charlie

yeah, just swap them over. i did one last week.

the job goes something like this,,

put your new flange in the house on the radiator to get it nice and hot.

undo the big nut on the diff. then screw it back on a few turns
wack the flange off with a big soft hammer
clean the splines with a bit of rag and stick some copper slip on
push new hot flange on till its fully seated.
use ratchet to 'nip' the big nut up..

don't go wild retightening the nut up or else you will squash the crush washer inside the nose of the diff, hence why I said nip it up.

Thanks big man! Seems easy enough!

And this means I can run my non-abs prop and it will fit the abs diff?

yeah, ive just done the complete opposite. turning a non abs (short nose) diff to an abs (long nose)..

you need to use an impact gun to get the big but off or if you don't have one loosen it whilst its still on the car with the brakes on/in gear.

Erm.....correct me if I'm wrong. But your short non abs input flange won't fit on the front of an abs diff. The abs diff is physically longer to accept the abs sensor.
And to be quite honest. I can't really see a problem in just pulling the prop 20mm further out the box.
