I was driving up to Braintree today, and i passed Wethersfield, so couldn't resist a look at this place. I was surprised that when i got to what used to be RAF Wethersfield, it is now a hugely developed Ministry of Defence Police Training centre. The guard at the gatepost advised me that no civilians would be allowed access without the proper authority. I asked him about the gliding school and he told me that it was only for RAF cadets. I guess i'd be very surprised if they were renting out runway/space on an active MOD property for civilians to hoon about on , cause the MOD sure don't need the money!
A air field for the day for 300 thats a bargin im up for trying it out ill be happy even if theirs only 3 cars and split the cost/ tidying up ect
Will be contacting them tomorrow to find out what they will allow us to do, let's not get carried away, there is no such thing as a £300 hire, basically that's ground rent, still got to add, insurance, medical cover, tyre van, marshall's, clean up etc.
thanks for doing it mate , let me no what they say , it would still be an affordable practice day if they let us with the go ahead
Guys, You need to speak to my son, Daryl Jones. He has a BDC licence and is a Senior Instructor on the Gliding School at Wethersfield !! He already has the perfect drift area in mind as, coincidentally, we have recently been talking about organising something there.
Gaz61 thats awesome!! hopefully he can secure a spot there as looks like many people are intrested in attending
I have spoken with the venue and they are arangeing for a meeting, sometime in the next couple of weeks, so we can discuss the matter in detail, as soon as I have any further info I will post it up on here.
