I'd go BMW. Cheaper to replace than the R154 and CD009. Also depends what car it's going in as the CD009 is a fat and long gearbox.

good timing for me to see this, i'm putting my 2jz in my SX and want to use a 6 speed bmw box, stuck between the GS6-53BZ (petrol) or the GS6-53DZ (diesel). Apparently the petrol ratios are longer and a bit more friendly especially for my 3.9 diff I just need someone to 100% confirm this.
The diesel ones are 10 a penny though and common as muck compared to a petrol one...

If you already have the space, go for the GS6-53DZ. Nice shifting dual synchro, very strong, well priced clutches and good gearing.

The diesel ratios are going to be fine, especially with a 3.9 diff. The 6th gear of the GS6-53DZ box is almost the same as 5th in an R154 (which is plenty long enough).

What i would say is i bought the PMC kit for the 1uz to GS6 53DZ and wasn't impressed. For not much more money i would have gone for the Driftmoto conversion.

So you want the box from a E60/E61 530d with the code GS6-53DZ. The code is on a yellow label on the side.

CD009 Would be the best bet on it, there seriously strong and proven already and the ratios are good.

Although if your building a comp car you would need to be more concerned on how much youve cut out the firewall

"Competition vehicles must retain the original OEM unibody and/or frame structure between the original most forward suspension or sub-frame mounting points and most rear ward suspension or sub-frame mounting points, as seen in Fig 1 + 2 (Front) Fig 3 + 4 (Rear). This includes floor pans, bulkheads and ‘A’, ‘B’ or ‘C’ pillars. A small amount of material can be removed for a rear mounted radiator, excessive removal is not allowed. Strength must not be sacrificed."

For example, also the tunnel is being made from 3mm steel so will be around 3 times stronger than factory 1mm
