    Looks like lost an engine and took it down to avoid the nearby houses as its quite built up nearby!!

    My thoughts go out to his family, he's left a wife behind.

    What a selfless thing to do by bringing the plane right down to avoid anyone getting hurt.

    I love the red arrows, and have followed them since I was a little girl..

    Well I went into work today which is about 100 or so meters away from crash site on the other side of the river. Could not see much but they had closed the road only letting people who need to get in and out go through.

    From what I have been told it seems very likely it was a bird strike again, also that he could of blacked out from the g-force trying to miss the houses ect.. so thats why he didnt eject before hitting the ground. He got chucked from the plane in the impact when it started to cartwheel. No chance of survival!
    But nothing is 100% set in stone facts as yet.

    Its strange to think if I did go in to do overtime I would of seen it coming in infront of me.

    no aparently not, they found him smashed up against the river bank with a trail of aircraft parts and ejection seat without anyone in it (its been said the impact set the ejection seat off). I think that picture is why they suspect a bird strike. Loads of birds always around the perimeter of the airport being scared off flapping about. Hard to say though as I didnt see it and the quality of pic is rubbish. Could be the remains of birds and engine parts spraying out.

    I interpreted that photo as being the canopy, i believe its another aircraft above it and to the left.

    I guess we shouldn't speculate until the official findings are released, although it was only a year or so ago that the hawks were grounded due to safety concerns with the ejection equipment.

    Been following this since it happened, the latest that has been reported by my local news broardcast says the engine failed and the pilot flew the aircraft away from houses.

    That all I no for now.

    The canopy doesnt depart the aircraft on Hawks mate, it gets detonated and the pilot goes through the hole.

    [​IMG] Bloody explosive strips that go off before he goes out ARGH im thick!!

    AFAIK the old MB seats used to fire a bolt/pin upwards to shatter the canopy before the newer ones like this came in. Thinking about it I cant think of many uk aircraft where the canopy does come off prior to ejection..

    Ill explain why, at least in the video footage, you can tell the engine is still running, and at high power. The smoke. You only get a good burn of smoke at high power settings, typically 90% up. The question is, why didnt he carry on the break to land, why was his smoke still on and why was the engine running at such a high power setting.
    When they recover and download the ADR that will tell exactly whats gone on.
    I went up to RAF Scampton today and signed the book :(

    On the right hand side of the canopy is a plunger and detonator, the pilot pulls the handle, the seat goes up the rail, a striker hits the plunger and blows the canopy. Then a barostat fires the bolt/drogue chute :)

    G-LOC, I betcha - no rudder inputs and no ejection are classic signs :(

    They crash rather more often than most people think as well, eh Swampy ;)

    saw the red arrows at the Farnborough air show last year, they were amazing and its a such a shame. My thoughts go out to his wife, family and the people close to him!

    As for steering clear of houses, it goes to show what a true legend this guy is...

    Shame man, poor dude.

    Would anyone else eject instead of sacrificing yourself to get away from houses?
    As selfish as it sounds I'd rather keep my old dear happy with me being alive than destroying her life.
