i am currently starting to prep my rx7 fc3s as a cheap (ish) drift/track car, get it to some drift days, have fun, and also use as a bit of advertising for nickson motorsport. it wont be anything mental, not for a while anyway, due to funds and being rather busy actually running the buisness, but i really need to get a car to a basic stage where it can be used and look respectable for the company. its only an n/a but once i have learnt to drive it properly, i can then think about putting something more powerful in it. (i have a complete turbo with blown engine aswell) anyway, my main object for the minute is to make the most of the engine thats in that at the min and make the car as light as possible. after taking the rear glass hatch off the car i have noticed its rather bl==ody heavy lol. to get a plastic hatch made up will cost a lot of money, so i thought of maybe making an aluminium rear hatch for it. much lighter, and will also totally change the look of the rear end. but im just wondering what it would look like. is there any photoshop gurus who could have a blast at trying to give me an idea of what it might look like with the glass rear hatch being painted solid like the rest of the car. i think it could look pretty cool. and if i ever wanted to compete in it, it doesnt affect the silhouette of the car does it? what do people think. will get a project thread up once things get moving. just spent the weekend stripping it and getting rid of stupid sound deadening. cheers
well im sure there are lots of people that would want a group buy on a perspex/polycarb rear hatch for the fc. there is minimal amounts of frame to it, the whole thing is pretty much glass lol, and it weighs a ton. how do u form the shape of the perspex/polycarb stiggy. may be interested, but at the end of the day it wont cost me anythin, apart from cost of some ally sheet to make my own, and plus it will be different which is always good.
even 3 wil bring the price down!makes worth making the mould then!! ill sit down tomoro n see what i can do price wise! ill post back on this thread
Oh thas jus fucking dandy, lol, I go and spend loads on a fibreglass and lexan rear hatch and some cheap group buy goes ahead, lol. My one in TOTAL weighs less than the standard frame does, its mega light. My new one weighs 15lb, the standard one, even after you remove the rear wiper setup, weighs 57kg!
plastics4performance do the rear glass in lexan and i must say i was very impressed with my fd rx7 one, it looks just like factory
dont think they do it for fc tho mate. i have emailed them tho regarding gettin a mould made so will see wot they say.
ok cool, well i might like i say make a complete ally rear hatch so there is no rear window at all lol. will have to see what it looks like. but should look pretty different
tbh i just want to get drifting, but at the same time it cant look rubbish as it will be used as a bit of advertising at the same time for nickson motorsport. so basically will make it nice and light, do the usual mods required for drifting, then make it look respectable/different, and get it painted, signwritten, then use it. if i am half decent at drifting, then i will take it further and do something a bit more serious, but for the min i just need to get it done, and start using it.
looks like my plans have changed again lol as i have just bought a turbo fc. bit more power to play with now then.
