Yes mate. I did my first dwyb in a 1.6 mx5 and its purely 1st gear. Even in the kidney pen, its 1st gear. A better, smoother driver would be able to bost out second but i couldnt.
First gear, keep your heaters on full and bonnet up on the catch, 40psi plus on the back and chuck it around revving the tits off it.

    Fun.

No way in hell is the kidney track first gear in any car.
If you were struggling in the kidneys then the fact you was in first gear would have been a big reason why.

1st gear in the kidney will cook your car!

2nd gear , tyre pressures higher if your bogging!

Last one I was in a 1.8 mx5 1st gear all day long in them, heaters in makes a huge difference, 35psi front, 60 psi rear and you'll be on your way. Lex took mine around the main circuit, 2nd gear the whole way around, we passed everything out there including 3-400bhp Silvia's. With the mx5 it's down to the balls of the driver!

I thought that the kidney would be 2nd gear but I imagine its all about keeping the wheels spining

60psi.... Jeez that loads. I assume with the much air and being in first gear its easy to spin out?

Even in a bog stock MX5 1.6, 1st in the Kidney is a ridiculous idea. 60psi in the rear is fine, but 1st is so slow you'd struggle to link even the little kidney.
That's not balls, that's not having the speed to manage it.

That's what I was advised on the day and that seemed to work out! Plenty of spinning out to begin with but the problem wasn't mechanical or electrical so much as vegetable. I would have been happy to get in the kidney in the afternoon but it got busy and the playpens were empty so I went with the seat time option. Next time ill do a couple on the playpen then hit the kidney and start to sort out getting faster and second gear, and shifting properly.

If your struggling to skid an MX5 bang 60psi in the back and go faster. Speed makes everything easier in an MX5

    Play pens 1st gear
Kidney 2nd gear and loads of pressure in those rear tyres
But as mentioned speed is key in an mx5 and using the speed to weight transfer the car about by man handling the thing.
Basically take your mx5 by the balls and kick fuck out of it! ;)
