So I'm learning how to drift. One of the steps to starting is knowing how to double clutch when downshifting. I dont necessarily double clutch, I do something similar and just wanted to see if it really gives me the same results or not.

    DOUBLE CLUTCHING
1.Disengage, shift to Neutral, engage clutch
    2.Rev Match
    3.Disengauge, down shift, engage clutch

    but I do this
1.Disengage clutch, downshift to the location of the gear but dont push it in
    2. Rev match and while gently pushing the shift rod to the desire gear, it will just slip in when revs are matched.
    3.Engage clutch.

Its less foot work, and it feels just the same.
But do you guys agree? and It is bad to hold the clutch open that long while doing all that?

I dont see why you need to. Clutch down and neutral are the same thing effectively when you are drifting, and unless youve smashed your synchros up you dont need to DDC at all.

I remember when fast n furious 1 came out, and all my mates said "I can double clutch now my car feels well quicker".

I then explained that unless they have a straight cut dog box that there's no point and they just look retarded.

No offence mate, if you have got a syncro less box then as doc says yea, but don't bother if you ain't. Just adding more work for yourself

Can you drift around a cone in 1st gear yet? Without spinning out?

    Thanks for the responses guys.
@Blackett, Thing is I dont have a sports car yet. I have a Hyundai Elentra 01, its in perfect condition but Im afraid that practicing to drift on it will mess up my suspensions or something and its the only car I have now. Im saving up for a mustang, but until then Ill just practice shifting techniques.

    1. Hyundai Elentra = front wheel drive. Its not a drift car dude.
    2. What the hell are "shifting techniques" - the only one I know is "push gearstick into gate"

Double clutching.. for drifting? I just mash the gearstick in the general direction of the desired gear and 9/10 times it works. Done.

No worries, the vast majority of people who come on here to talk about drifting don't actually drift! ;)

I didnt end up going, went to see Gduk on Friday an on the way back the gearbox has shat itself, but I think that's down to my slipping clutch.

Don't believe me ring and ask him, I already ordered another one to fit next week.

But I don't care lol I still throw it around wherever and have a laugh. I just havnt got to an 'official ' day yet
