New engine all working perfectly (the old one toasted it's big end bearings) and a few more little jobs done like modify the downpipe to work with the new 3" elbow. I also put the old exhaust, used on the 20v back on. This will be replaced by something a bit more suiting at some point.. Taxed it today and took it for a little drive (in the wet).... 2 Main observations: 1) It is officially stupid... 5th gear, roll on the throttle, comes on boost then spins up like mad!! It is very VERY lairy 2) Having no heater is stupid.. I need to hurry up and get a working heater fitted to keep the windows from steaming up so I can see blurred surroundings a bit better ill try and get some pics tommorow
Turbo was fine, it was black death that killed the old engine... Stripped it down and found pretty much lumps of tar in there due to it not being servicedmuch in it's life... the x-drillings in the crank were blocked, cooking the big ends.. That engine will be slowly rebuilt as a spare.. New engine has been a bit more loved!
Ouch Not good, glad the new engine's working nicely though, 5th gear wheel spins, it's utterly retarded! I'll have to come up one weekend with the new BMW once I've done the suspension in a week's time (Gaz Coilovers ) and sorted the diff out so we can go have a bit of a laugh
Done a few more miles in it now.. Boost is now under control and at about 0.9 bar at the min. Still feels super rapid I am just waiting on a few bits to turn up and fit to make it a bit more road friendly and reliable.. A heater (just for de-misting) Bigger fuel pump (so it doesn't melt) 3.77 CWP (So I can drive it at 70+ without my ears exploding) Will get some pics up as the parts arrive, then hopefully get some vids of it in action...
Ed Credit has to be given where credits due. The work done on this car is brilliant. Im working thru a 20v Mk2 Escort project too but this is another level. Well done
Well, it has been working well for the past few months now. Due to being very busy at work and distracted by other cars (I got myself a E46M3) I havent had chance to drive it that much but I am still doing a few little jobs on it, slowly fixing little niggles and generally making it better. It drives really well now. I changed the diff ratio to something a bit more suitable for the road and am running the boost at about 0.8bar. (any body know what sort of power it should have at this boost?... Blacktop VVT,0.8bar, Induction, FMIC, 3"elbow& Downpipe. Handling is pretty good now aswell, only thing that I will probably do next year is go to tension struts on the front and fit some 4 pots to slow it down. The rear ARB will be really good on track makes it feel really nice on turn-in, I am running without it on the road at the moment as even on it's softest setting its a bit stiff for everyday use (unless you want to go everywhere on opposite lock) Really looking forward to 2012 and using the car at as many events as possible. Will take a bit of getting used to as it is very different to drive now, but I reckon it will be very capable. Heres some pics of how it looks at the moment: The interior neatened up a bit.... A bit of heat protection.. Rear of engine raised a bit, front lowered a bit.. Only a few mm but it is a bit neater around the rack now And some general engine ones.. On the "to do" list: Make a new exhaust (bigger, lighter, louder) Fit the bigger Fuel pump (at the same time as braided lines) Fit the screen demister Fit cooling fans On the "upgrades" list: Front tension struts Proper front brakes Cheers
Cool as a fucking awesome cool thing. Im not a SR20 fanboy like some are who would chop one off over a double decker bus as long as it had a SR in it, but fuck me this car is properly badass
the bit that said i havent had much time to drive my fucking awesome 3dr mk2 escort with an SR in it, because ive just bought an e46m3. that bit really got to me. im probably just one of many who is so fucking jealous!!!!! this car plays on my undying love for old fords so much but with added turbonessss. props.
Cheers for the comments guys Hux- That sounds cool, look forward to seeing it. What boost are you running in your KE? Cheers
Just killer. Ive just bought a 1960 Anglia 105e which will be getting an SR but from a Pulsar GTIR (stronger block and Individual throttle boddies). I will be interested to see how the axle lasts....... Im going to fit the complete pulsar rear axle in the Anglia only locates on 4 bolts. Regarding your brakes cheap 4 pot upgrade is Austin Princess AP 4 pots they bolt straight on and big improvment.
Straker - 105 with the SR will be pretty mental I'm interested to see how long the english lasts. Terry used to run an english with his YB using std shafts etc for a full season. I'm going to do have a play with the brakes and see how much weight I can get off the struts at the same time. Hux - That is about what boosts at aswell so I'm guessing it must be similar power
im a full on mk1 and mk2 escort bummer and usualy get upset if there is anything but a pinto in it, but i like that and it looks like it was always meant to be in there, very very cool good work
