last few weeks car has been bit of a nightmare to get started.

if i go to start the car in the morning, when its cold, it fires straight away, as it should :smokin:

however, if i then just nip to the shop, half a mile down the road, try starting it and it wont catch.

likewise if ive been driving a few miles and park up, its a nightmare again.

it turns over fine, battery and starter are fine, and going for gold.

but the car really strugles to catch itself? even with a bit of pedal assistance.

    here is a clip....

is this fuel related? or spark? any input gladly appreciated

I'd say that's probably too much fuel. Do they have a cold start injector in the intake manifold (4As do)?

Try disconnecting it if it does. If it doesn't could be a leaky injector.

could be flooding , check the ECU engine temp sensor?

maybe a diagnostic hook up would pin point.

My 328 used to do something similar, it was a cracked fuel feed line off the top of the fuel pump...

Have you tried to leave it to idle for a minute before you turn engine off... It could be over fueling..

Yes i leave it idle before switching off, as it has a turbo timer.

The ecu temp sensor, is that the water temp sensor in the rad?

To find out if it is flooding should i take one of the spark plugs out after its just shut off to see if its wett?

Or isit best to change a few sensors?

flooded dude, like what bolf said, you need to get it pluged into to confirm but my money is also on the ECT sensor giving the reading that the car is always cold thus over fueling. plus feel free to crank it over afew more times before you stop as doing it the way you are is the best way to flood the motor ;)

Ok guys thanks for input. Ive got a diagnostics machine but the supra isnt obd2.

There is a way to check the stock diagnostic port on them with paperclip.

I have recently installed a new radiator, and kept my old temp sensor.

Maybe its gone bad since being disturbed....

Idle valve is clean. I stripped and cleaned few months ago (dont know how that would prevent a start, just a bad idle?)

my brothers does the same thing, and ive tried changing the temp sensor (on another related symptom)

it only does it occasionally when warm and will start on the second attempt.

Simple answer is don't use that sort of car for really short trips as you will just knacker it.

yes am on there, have posted also.

can i test the Crank Position Sensor? or just replace. the fuel pump is fine when its started and running, so would that still cause it?

PS there are no stored codes on the stock diagnostics

If you can get your hands on a workshop manual , it will give resistance values for a normal working sensor usually , or you may need a scope :-(

Easiest way to fix a problem like this is to swap parts from a car with no issues until the fault is fixed , then that usually points to the part you need

My skyline done this up till a 2 weeks ago, used to conk out on me at traffic lights to. It turned out to be a bad B.O.V. so I went back to stock and not a beep out of her since.

Is it stock? Or does it have larger injectors and a fuel controller ?

    stock injectors,

does have a Apexi SAFC though.

i cant see how a BOV would prevent the car starting, just idling?

ive put ona new water temp sensor, still does it...

going to see how the plugs look next week if they are dry or wet when this occurs....
