The more I read this thread the more i get the feeling that the 12cm3 turbine housing on the HX35 will be restrictive on my 2.8 6cyl.
For fastest spool, he351cw or hx35 7-blade twin scroll 12cm/14cm?
Motor will be a built s14 2.1L lower block + sr16ve head (these cams LOVE to rev and BIG turbine housings), rev to at least 8k.
At the moment i have the he351ve, but apparently, these struggle to make power (spring controlled vgt), weights a ton and has this really retarded flange... So might be swapping it in for one of the above.
I have no idea what turbine housing the he351cw normally comes in, so plz fill in the gaps if u know the details. He351cw as far as i know are also single scroll.... So the ex manifold won't cost as much.
In case i go with the HX35 twin scroll, i will be going for a suited ex mani...
I have an he351. It's got a 9cm single scroll exhaust housing.
Compressor racing have released an HX32 (hx35 comp wheel with 7cm exhaust housing with t28 flange)
I'd say it would be epic on a built SR as it's basically aimed at the SR market
Yea i'm following them on a daily basis and saw it on their list It sounds perfect indeed, but I'm aiming for a bit more power...
Are the he351 housing sizes also stamped on the inside like the older holsets?

I can't remember if it's on the inside or not but that looks to be the 9cm housing on that one yea.

Stavros, What kinda of max power can be had from a hy35 with the exhaust housing ported out to 3" , 3"exhaust, 2.5L bmw i6 12v.
also wastegates, i have a 38mm gate, im running 380bhp atm at 1bar, what does a 38mm support ?

Not really. Depends what you want from it. I've seen HY35 9cm get over 500bhp on 2.8ltr engines, and they've got a smaller turbine wheel too.
Yep, HX30 turbine wheel too. It's deffo been made with the 1.8ltr-2ltr "Ohh, a HX35/HY35 is too big for me" market.
I have one on a 1.4ltr engine, as even HX35s on 2ltrs don't bother me.

Most I've seen from a HY35 on a 2.5ltr is about 520bhp. You got a long way till you max it out.
The more boost you run, the less wastegate you need, so if you fine at 1bar with a 38mm, you'll be fine at higher too.
The sound in your vid sounded slightly odd, might've just been the mic, but sounded almost pulsing, like the boost wasn't being held steady or something.
The funny noise is because the gate is on PWM @85/90% @1bar so yes its chopping in and out and has a screamer..
The gate has a .5bar spring for my 291bhp map, flick switch and it goes to PWM control for 1bar.
I need to get my tuner to just open the gate 100% at 1bar.. he seems to be chopping boost from .5 bar, dont know if he doesnt like how fast it spools?
Went to the strip last weekend and ran my RB20det powered Rx7 equipped with the HY35, running around the efficiency zone (26-27psi) trying to blow the poor old RB20 up. Stock internals, stock head gasket, stock cam, stock cam gears. A bit of a proof of concept for an HY35 on a stock RB20.
Time from slip is as follows:
.757 - reaction
1.577 - 60 foot
1/4 mile - 10.674
1/4 mile MPH - 131.61
Did a couple passes on 30psi but could not 60 foot it, engine is running fine still. Did about 10-15 passes that weekend all above 20psi. Was getting a lot of blow by running above 25psi.

The best of both worlds would be the newly designed HE's coupled to a twin scroll housing. Saw one on fleebay not too long ago, called an HE351w. Asked the seller some questions and the damn thing disappeared...
HE351s come in the more common 9cm single scroll form, or the rarer but out there 12cm twin scroll form. They're basically HX40 size compressor and HX35 turbine wheel.
Seems a waste not using a twin scroll manifold and running a 9cm single scroll, so as long as 600bhp max is your goal, I'd go for the HX35.
On 2ltr engines with good twin scroll setups (4G63s and Cossie YBs well proven) they hit 25psi+ by 3500rpm or so. And no way would a single scroll HX351 manage that.

Thanks! Considering I was running 12.1's prior it really impressed a lot of people. Almost skipped the 11's all together, only difference was more boost, vibrant intercooler 75mm throttlebody and some seat time.

The sr16ve head flows almost as good as that of a 4G63, so if all goes well I should be able to pull off the same numbers
I'd be very happy with 500 even on flywheel. The engine is rather built for torque than revving given the 81mm bore and 90mm stroke.
What's the engine, that's quite under square, what engine? I always preferred the over square myself, seems the reliability goes way up.
HX35 12cm I would think would make a nice mid-high power street turbo, with little lag on engine like that. your going to be making more power in the mid range anyway due to the valve size restriction of an under square engine. I am guessing anyway, maybe Stav can clarify.
I should think 500 crank hp on a 2.8L with an HX35 would easily/reliably attained seeing all the supporting mods are there, you can make 500 crank hp on an RB20 (bore: 78.0 mm, stroke: 69.7 mm) with an HY35 @24-25psi???
It is a Volvo T6 twin turbo engine converted to a single turbo.Hopefully it wont be laggy with that small 12cm3 twin scroll turbine. Yes, I am expecting the power at mid/highish rev range too.Might gonna get some cam mods later on,but first I wanna see how it performs with the stock cams.The head is ported and polished.A friend of mine is running a 5 cyl Volvo with similar bore/stroke ratio (83mm/93mm) with a stock bottom end at 1.7bar with a KKK K29 and did 13s/189km/h at 1/4 mile drag.
I've just bought a HE221W for my sr and I'm hoping to run about 350bhp and was looking for some advice on set of the turbo. I'll be using sard 550cc injectors, power fc and a Z32 afm but am unsure of what boost to run on the turbo. Any help greatly appreciated, thanks
I am assuming you have an external wastegate and Boost controller?
