The Lexus Re-build, phase 3 "Taking it serious"

As i soon will be embarking on a major re-build of the lexus, i thought i would start the topic so that a couple of the other guys involved, or hopefully will be involved can contribute there thoughts and ideas as it progresses

Here are Phase 1 and 2 of the original builds...CLICK HERE

The original build was a track car,and endurance racer, was used mostly in Germany the second re-build was the colour change and minor changes made to turn it into a drifty car

the 3rd build, will be a complete stripdown and re-build, the engine is being changed to a turbocharged 3S_GE from an altezza., it currently uses a tweeked Toyota motorsport N/A 1G-FE

a full weld in cage will replace the facory 6 point TRD cage, this will allow me to ditch the suspension turret braces and floor-chassis braces
the fuel system is being replaced with a fuel cell, i can ditch the non fuel teturn line system and 70litre tank then!!
hopefully stand alone ecu...or at least minimum use of the factory multiplex system, which is truely a pain in the ass to work with

ive yet to decide on what forced induction parts to use...

but the internals will more than likely be TODA low compression pistons and steel crank, Eagle H rods will connect them

as for the head, no definative direction has yet been decided, but the varible valve timing will be disabled

sat on the living room floor at the moment are some of the parts that have arrived from japan.

    KAAZ 2 way LSD
    TRUST high volume oil pan
BORIS Factory 5.12 rinal drive gear and pinion
    TRD Engine mounts/gearbox mounts
    ORC ultralight flywheel and clutch
    HKS oil cooler
    El Sport differential mounts
    DTEC suspension bushes

sat in the garden is the engine, gearbox.............. :wack:

Sure can, but i need to know exact details of the engine to assertain the generation it is since toyota made several revisions.

And the cams can be run with VVT or without, but i would suggest with VVT....bit of a pain to map, but on a turbo its highly beneficial.

Controlling them will be an issue, the degree variability that we can have with the BEAMS system means that I'd have to develop a complete new control algorithm which would need a map for each cam and a few different trigger cases. It would be an interesting task but would take a fair bit of developing.

My thoughts on cam control are that we look at how the cam solanoids are pulsed and see if we can lock them in place electronically, if not then lock them mechanically until we're further down the line of development. Then get the engine set up and running before trying some noddy advance and retard tests (based on RPM and knock).

    Should be fun what ever.

its the altezza aluminum block 3s-ge,(sxe-10) with varible valve on the intake

the control is by oil pressure and electronic, HKS do do a controler for the VVT called valcon, but id be happier to have it removed......or controled fully, its a infinatly varible cam, so not like vtec which is switched on/off

to disable it, is a simple case of fitting a head gasket that blocks the oil drilling in the block

i am currently looking at 2 turbos,

    a HKS GT2540R good for 370hp, and also a GT2835 good for around 400hp

ill more than liekly run with external wastegate, if i use the gt2835

Ben, you said your able to manufacture manifolds.......

    indeed fun.......

I would need the cylinder head to take some measurements, as for that engine there are still 3 generations.

I can make manifolds yes, inlet or exhaust?

But complete car is needed to work out spacing.

ben, there is only one generation for the altezza,(sxe-10) the black top the red top is the dual vvti as fitted to the last generation mr2, the only other version i know is the type fitted to the caldina.

as for getting you the head, thats not a problem.....i will be stripping it soon, to start the prep for the install of the 2.2 stroker parts

the other generations are all the iron block 3s-ge, and gte as fitted to mr2 ,celica and avensis...plus other models
however the Altezza and Caldina are the only cars fitted with the alloy blocks,
the altezza also has the Yamaha developed head, with the titanium valves
