So I bought possibly the cheapest altezza I've ever seen for sale originally with the intent of using it as a daily driver. received_1333641496773574.

Literally did nothing to it other than fit a different set of prodrive wheels I had sitting to it.

Then unfortunately the timing belt snapped. I hadn't checked this stupidly as there was a receipt from this being done a couple years ago so probably my own fault.

So that failed pretty spectacularly luckily I was just pulling away from traffic lights when it went so was very low rpm basically just above idle.
IMG_20191110_105035. Unfortunately as you can see it bent a few valves didn't appear to even mark the pistons though. IMG-20191110-WA0008.
You can see how badly this valve was bent its one of the worst two you can see in the photo. No real damage visible on the head though so I decided to look into buying the parts to fix it.

I guess this is where I decided the cars already in bits so why not build the engine as parts aren't crazy easy to source anyway since it's an import engine.

So I set about sourcing valves, valve springs, retainers, manganese bronze valve guides, upgraded valve seals so I can get the head rebuilt. IMG_20191130_132103.

Im looking into getting upgraded rods and pistons now to go down the forced induction route. Probably take me a fair bit of time to get this car ready to drift but will get there eventually.

Decided to treat my project to a Christmas present so had an intake manifold made. I'm aware the stock one is good but I'm wanting to simplify the set up and who doesn't like nice looking car parts.

You were so lucky i did exactly the same in my altezza except I absolutely obliterated the head which I suppose is what happens when the cambelt snaps at 8.5k rpm lol and now I'm still on the hunt for another engine.

Probably keep it pretty close to stock as I'm wanting it to be reliable and don't want to have to spend fortunes maintaining it but will see how it goes really just want it to be responsive and make more power through the rev range

Finally got the work completed on the head guess it's time to build the bottom end now.

Yeah it's nice I should really put up more pictures of it showing some of the other details. It's made by an Australian company called weldspeed guy Adam I think his name is who runs it makes some quality Toyota stuff. Really just after good response anywhere between 300 and 350 I think is achievable while retaining reasonable maintenance costs and reliability so would be happy with that. What are your goals for your build?

Just to finish it would be the goal lol. Unfortunately I dont really have the money or mechanical skills to be in the modified car game but im stubbornly plodding along :D. Id say just getting this inlet operational and getting my low mount manifold changed to a top mount will pretty much be it. Its a daily too so I cant really have it off the road for any length of time. Heres a pic of my inlet so far, should hopefully need one more trial fit (plus any tweeks) and it'll be done...

Thanks, its taken far too long but without having the space, correct tools or a second car it was always going to take ages. Started life as a cheap second hand 1jz inlet that I chopped up and used what I could from it. Luckily my uncle welds so that side of it has kept the cost down. Not quite as nice as yours though

Slightly oversized but can be done by pretty much anywhere that builds engines and does the machine work.
As they need to installing and lapping into a 3 angle valve seat.
Don't know if they are stronger than stock titanium or not but they are a bit bigger my engine was an auto so think it had the steel valves anyway.
Good quality product anyway ferrea competition plus valves.

    hi

how much improvement will that weld speed intake give you?

and doing the head work with uprated valve springs and guides, will that let you up the redline?

If he didnt upgrade the valves springs and retainers she would drop a valve altezza engines are shit for dropping valves if you chase north of 300bhp springs cant take it and valves shatter and wreck everything because there titanium
