Volvo 760 Turbo MANUAL NOW WITH PICTURES 1988 Volvo 760 Turbo Silver 4 Speed Manual + OD B230E Engine (2.3 Litre 4 Cyl Turbo) Air con (doesn't work) Electric drivers seat (doesn't work completely) Electric Sunroof Alloy wheels Leather seats Just ticked over 110k which for one of these is delivery mileage No rust anywhere Has a turbo leak at the moment which I have tried to find but can't. Makes a loud hissing noise. This is the late model 760 which has the chrome grille and bigger headlights. It also has indepedent rear suspension rather than the live axle. Tax until end of march, mot until middle of April. £350 {} {} {} {} ooo, and it has a bit of steering lock {}
It's a four speed gearbox with an overdrive unit bolted on the back. It is activated by a switch on the top of the gear stick.
Overdrive is like a high and low ratio, so you'd have like 3rd gear, then you could go 3rd gear plus overdrive which would be just a little shorter than 4th gear. Good for going up and down hills, overtaking etc.
I can get a picture but don't have any space to host it. The owner (Dad) wants £1k but I think if someone waved the cash at him he would take less.
Sounds like a real good car. An early 740 will be good for a bit of cheapo drifto i reckon, live axle, .48 housing garrett T3 turbo rather than later versions tiny mitsu turbos, and so on, esp as you see em sell for under 500quid. suprisingly unheavy too, around 1300kg IIRC, and a of that is gonna be the interior (plus 2x ballast weights, one behind std front bumper, one on the bulkhead). some mild stage1 style engine mods, totally stripped, welded diff, nice n low, and should be a pretty handy car. do feel massivley big to drive tho, even though they not as big as they feel...
They have an auto locking diff as standard !!!!, you need to weld up the little flapper bits that flap out with wheelspin between 5 & 25mph weld it closed & keep it locked, easy job and means you get a pukka locker. Its like a bob weight that flies out & operates the locking mechanism, you'll soon see it when you open the casing up
I had a 760 turbo of similar vintage and that definately had an open diff but my dads 940 seems to have a locker of some sort. I gave mine as much shit as I could and not once did I manage to get the damned thing to go sideways on a roundabout. Then again maybe if the handbrake worked well enough to lock the wheels it might have helped My dad's 940 feels like it would drift nicely if you pushed it but the suspension is really too soft.
Right, this car has to go this week. Act now and get another 760 of the same year and colour for absolutely free (not joking) The second car is a 200,000 mile V6 auto model but it would do for spares for a lot of parts. The turbo car has 4 almost new tyres on it and is still taxed/mot'd as far as I know. £600 the pair.
Still here Will swap for some S13 parts if anyone has some interesting stuff or some Silvia S13 wings and headlights/indicators
