    Hi guys

I recently took delivery of some cars and one of them is a JZ147 Aristo with a 2jzgte engine. Unfortunately it is an automatic.

My question now is which gearbox will fit in there with as less mods as possible?

    Thanks

    V160 / V161 Getrag 6-speed from a Mk4 Supra JZA80.

    R154 5-speed from a Mk3 Supra MA70 3-litre turbo (needs a JZ bellhousing)
    R154 5-speed from a 1JZ-GTE engined Soarer JZZ30 or Mk3 Supra JZA70 or Chaser/Mark II/Cresta JZX90/JZX100/JZX110.

    W58 5-speed from a Mk4 Supra non-turbo.
    W58 from a Mk3 Supra MA70 3-litre non-turbo (needs a JZ bellhousing).
The W58 reputedly breaks with anything more than a moderate power increase.

May have to extend the gearchange mechanism to move the lever back on the 5-speeds.

American companies like Marlin Crawler for parts to strengthen the 5-speeds.

I doubt if any of the above is easier to use for a conversion.

W58 is cheap as chips. Unfortunatly also as fragile as chips.
R154 costs an arm and a leg, but can cope with double the standard power easily.
Getrag 6 speed costs an arm, a leg and a signed contract with some shady Rumanian criminals, but that 'box can take almost anything you throw at it powerwise.

    I've got a auto-to-manual converted 1JZ, with a R154, and love it to bits. Do it!!! :D

So I guess an R154 from an 1jzgte equipped car should do the job.

Will there be some mods needed on the rear diff or prop?

    Thanks for the help guys.

    Don't think it was the R154. R150(F) and R151(F) IIRC. "F" = 4x4.

Probably different ratios -- close ratio for the cars and wide ratio for the trucks.

Lol the w58 is only fragile if you are putting 350+ hp through it and properly skidding all the time.

You'll have more trouble with the clutch size and clamping power to be honest.
I dunno where the rumour that its weak has come from, just internet BS. The R154 is stronger yes, but not loads stronger. Driving style also has a lot to do with it.

Hands up who has broken a W58 on here? and what power did you have?

F*ck it, hands up who has ever actually owned a car with one in?

I'm still trying to kill mine with 220hp and no pilot bearing, its on its second standard clutch but its still going, and my driving style is not kind to driveline components.

would asume W58 more easy to find aswell ?

wouldnt asume they are flimsy, if they are running heavy duty Toyota Hilux?

know a 2JZ is a bit of a handfull tho!
