Anybody have any idea what I will be paying on tax and vat on somthing I've bought from Japan?

I've heard daft things from 50% of the value of good to 10%

depends on the age of the car... what have you bought?

Basically, car cost + shipping + duties (5 or 10%) + vat (20%), but this is compounded, so they add it all together, charge you for the duties, then add that to the bill and then work out what the vat is.

hahaa, misunderstood... I think budgeting for 30% of the amount paid would be a good guestimate

its 30 percent of the value of the goods plus shipping. 10 percent for duty and 20 for vat

its all bollocks. in truth i dont think customs even know what or how to charge. even if you call them and listen to there explaination it doesnt equate to real life

ive bought near 2 grands worth of parts from japan over the last 12 months, and been charged different amounts for different parts, sometimes nothing at all for quite expensive bits. its the luck of the draw.

As long as I don't have to pay the full vat and tax for them I don't mind

I did the same. 2 of the wheels turned up but the other 2 got held by customs. Although they were in wrapping paper and said happy birthday, I didn't want to risk saying it was a gift so I had ended up sending them a copy of the invoice and had to pay the full duty.

Got some cool wheels and was still cheaper than buying a set from uk.

just send them a fake invoice saying they are worth less. the guy at customs aint gonna know what the are worth so just put them at like £400.
