Don't majorly mind speed tbh. And it needs to be an investment can't afford to lose money so a lot of newer cars are unpredictable. Theres a lot of 911 carreras 996 shape not many turbos about. But I've had a lot of recommendations now so gotta test drive me one!

That 340 is beautiful - I wouldn't care how slow it was, the shape is truly pimp

Not a lot of 996 turbos for sale?

    Have you looked about?

£25k would probs get you an x50 also if you look hard enough

996 Turbo for 25k is doable, but be very very careful !!

Lots of suspect histories and horror stories out there, cash strapped yuppies arent known for car love and mechanical sympathy !!

I'd consider the 348 - its got classic fezza looks with the side strakes, its essentially the same V8 as in other cars and is relatively easy to service (you can forget ANY V12 Ferrari, you wont afford the service costs, pure and simple) with plenty of specialists now on hand that the F-boys relate to and consider good enough not to affect values too much and as long as you do no more than 3k miles a year in it you will be fine. Try to find one with recent cambelt, new fuel tanks and if possible with the inlets sorted as I seem to recall these have an inherent problem. You wont lose money unless you buy a dog or you use the thing too much or dont get it serviced properly.

If you get a 911 do not get one with carbon brakes. Your budget wont get anywhere near a new enough car to have brakes that dont crumble and cost thousands. Steels are great and cost peanuts to replace, even calipers are cheap. Best cars have chrono and if you can find an x50 you will be laughing come tune up time !! Dont be tempted by a tiptronic, they are awful. Polar Silver I think is the rare colour thats sought after iirc.

I bought my GT3 from Camtune who are now a Porsche OPC but Paragon, JZM, 911 Virgin and GT One are all good places for cars that I know, Simon Furlonger is a good guy for Ferraris

As someone else has said its the running costs. A guy on my facebook has/had a F430 and that had a 8 and a bit grand bill when it went for a service He posted up the bill for it I'm just trying to find it now.

R35 GTRs are really expensive to run too.

GTR's arent expensive to run at all compared to Ferraris or 911 Turbos.

M12 would be in the price range and are an amazing little car that I can't imagine will lose much value in years to come, also servicing wouldn't be completely full of rape like the Ferrari facists expect

Nobles are mint. Beautiful blue one on ph for £23k. Would everyone be saying what they are if maintenance wasn't an issue. I see it like this- I get a 348 keep for 2 years approx 5k miles, in that time what could I possibly need to spend on as long as nothing major happens other than 2 services. I think its a stigma attached to Ferrraris.

There had to be someone suggest a Nissan on a Ferrari thread!

I'd always go for German over Italian, and an old 911 turbo will be lively enough to not make you want more power!

It's just those 2 services will almost undoubtedly be cripplingly expensive as with any car made by a 'high end' marque. Throwing my 2 cents in though I wouldn't even look twice at anything german, fantastic machines as they are they don't have a modicum of the charisma that any ferrari has. And I live next to a Porsche saleroom and they are Fuffing Boring!

    Just out of interest Jake,

What Porsches have you owned and driven ?? Ferraris too for that matter.

Loving the usual lack of understanding on threads as always.......

buy an R35 GTR (out of budget) they dont cost anything like as much as a Porsche to run (My R34 ate 30k in 18 months, my GT3 ate 2k in 2 years with more tracktime and most GTR owners discussions the last few years have been the surprisingly high servicing costs - nitrogen in your tyres anyone ??) lol.................

dont buy a German, they are souless (Alois Ruf might have something to say about that)...............

fezza servicing will de facto be crippling (thats why you take your time and chose very wisely, friend of mine had a 355 and just put oil in it pretty much, albeit £600 a time with plugs etc, but in that time my Audi diesel did £3k in servicing requiring all new brakes all round and a couple of factory recalls).....

the best one has gotta be the suggestion of buying Raefs engine.................best you do some research before someone takes your advice !!! Its a deal only a rich man could afford !!.........

Noble is a good shout, but alas like TVR became before dying they are not really the same company anymore and personally I have not got the faith in them I used to. Although if anyone knows of a decent M600 for 25k though feel free to pm me, I'll take three thanks !!

DB9...XKF-R........seriously, go away and have a good talk with yourselves !! Ones gonna be an absolute dog gone round the clock twice, left hooker, cat c write off formerly owned by a Qatarii oil bandit wrapped in gold reflective thats hiding the scuffs from the seven muppets before him who ragged it to death vomitting on the orange Kahn interior and the Jag is so far out of budget its in the middle of the next decade !! Its like whoever posted up the 340 earlier thats worth millions - totally pointless to the OP !!! lol

At the risk of being helpful I would possibly suggest putting your money into old Merc SL's with the lowest miles you can find, gotta be 5.0 V8's though and not in bright colours. Buy three or four now and in ten years you will be able to sell one and buy a two year old one with the money !!

Pretty unrelated to my post. I have never owned or driven either I have been passenger in a 996 and a 360 modena. My personal opinion is that Porsches aren't as interesting on an asthetic level and don't show half the flair and excitement of a Ferrari. As I said its my 2 pence not my proffesional opinion as an internet bullshitter.

    You should try driving one.

Might start to make sense then !!

Totally understand about your personal view on them at an aesthetic level, doesnt really come across like that in your post.

And apologies for singling you out, its just that if someone wants advice about a drift car then most here would assume the advice was coming from those with relevent expertise and knowledge if we forced everyone to say what type cars they have driven and people with FWD badges kept replying then Im sure most here would be on the backs of those posters pretty quick.

Thats not to say your opinion is not valid, of course it is, it's just sweeping statements like yours are always obviously made by those with no experience of the subject, otherwise they wouldn't make that statement - a bit like a non drifter saying welders are dangerous on the road - marks em out from a mile away as being plonkers !!

30k will get you into a 360 ( I've been looking my self but tempted to spend more and get a 612)
I originally looked at 328's but after a test drive I changed my mind.
I also looked at Porsches but they don't look, sound or feel as special as a Ferrari IMHO

Unless you have substantial slush fund to burn as needed then you should probably steer clear of that market, from my own research budgeting around 15-20k slush fund would be a good figure for a more modern Fcar, for an older one I would definately increase it. There are plenty of good independents who specialise in Ferrari but there's no getting away from the parts cost. If you skimp on servicing, stamps in the book then you can also watch the value depreciate rapidly as buyers will steer clear.

I would increase your budget and go for a 996 gt3, they seem like a really good package of reliability and sophistication and also enjoy solid value.

If you definitely want v8 Ferrari IMO your best bet is a late model f360, values on those have split; the munters in mid 30's, the desirables climbing into the 60's. I would be very cautious indeed of the cheaper end of that market :)

if you're in the market for a 348, here's a link you might enjoy with a lot of helpful informations including maintenance costs and some tips to avoid paying the full ferrari price on common parts
    My Ferrari 348

Stravos and Bladerider are pretty much right(except maybe for some maintenance prices about porsche but that might be from a wallet point of view) but from a personal point of view, porsche vs ferrari is really a question of what you're really looking for... high quality finish with this german touch-my-tralala thing everything is tight, everything performs a1(and you wish because if it don't..££!!) go for porsche
ferrari is more an artisanal feel, yes it's certainly not as reliable as a porsche, a 348 will never perform as a 996tt in stock form but hell it's a line, it's a look, it's a feeling, it's a OMGFAPFAP sound and to be honest having big power nowadays is pretty useless on the streets, 320 hp and a hell of a sound on twisty roads is perfect and enough for me
would be a 348gts for me please!
